Jan’s dark gray tile required extra care because darker pool tiles tend to show scratches, dull spots, and previous cleaning damage more easily. If dark tile has been aggressively pumiced or cleaned improperly with glass bead, the damage can become very noticeable.
Why We Chose Salt Blasting
For this job, we chose Max Strip, a salt-based blasting media similar to Epsom salt. It removes calcium buildup while protecting the tile’s color and glaze, making it a great choice for Jan’s dark gray pool tile.
Results
The tile cleaning took about 1.5 hours to complete. Once the calcium buildup was removed, Jan’s dark gray tile looked like new again. No sealer was applied or needed.

After about an hour of salt blasting, the pool tile looked like the day it was installed. The blasting media is 100% water soluble and will not harm the color or glaze of the swimming pool tile.
