A Phoenix PebbleTec Pool With 15 Years of Calcium Buildup
Dick contacted Arizona Bead Blasting about his 20-year-old PebbleTec pool in Phoenix. He was preparing to put his house on the market and wanted the heavy calcium buildup cleaned off the pool's PebbleTec surface.
The deposits had been building for roughly 15 years and protruded nearly half an inch from the surface. This was extreme buildup, and we explained that removing calcium from PebbleTec's textured finish can be challenging.
We lowered the pool water approximately 10 inches and used salt blasting to remove the calcium. The job took about two hours, including a few final touch-ups.

How We Removed the Calcium
Inspect the PebbleTec
We assessed the extreme calcium buildup and the textured PebbleTec surface before cleaning.
Salt Blast the Calcium
With the water lowered about 10 inches, we used salt blasting to remove the thick mineral deposits.
Touch Up & Finish
After roughly two hours and a few touch-ups, the heavy buildup was removed from the PebbleTec.
The Difference Is in the PebbleTec
Fifteen years of calcium buildup had formed a thick crust along the PebbleTec surface. Salt blasting removed the heavy deposits, dramatically improving the appearance of the pool. A faint ghost line may be visible when dry, but in this job it disappeared from view once the water returned to its normal level.

The Result
After approximately two hours and a few final touch-ups, the extreme calcium buildup was removed from Dick's PebbleTec pool. Even we were impressed with how well this difficult job turned out.
We had explained that a faint ghost line could remain where the calcium had been. On this pool, the line was barely visible when dry and disappeared from view once the water returned to its normal level.
Dick was amazed by the results. With the heavy white calcium gone, his pool was once again a great-looking focal point in the backyard as he prepared to sell his home. He thanked us for the work and booked another pool for the following week.
A Little PebbleTec History
Exposed-aggregate finishes have roots in decorative concrete work in Australia. Over time, the concept evolved into textured swimming pool finishes made with small pebbles and cement-based materials.
PebbleTec became an established pool-finish brand in Arizona in the late 1980s. Its textured appearance helped make exposed-aggregate finishes a popular alternative to traditional pool plaster.
That texture is also why calcium removal requires special attention. Mineral deposits can settle into the small crevices between the pebbles, making heavy buildup more challenging to remove than calcium on smooth pool tile surfaces.
PebbleTec Calcium Removal in Phoenix
Heavy calcium buildup can affect PebbleTec and other swimming pool surfaces throughout Phoenix. Arizona's hard water leaves mineral deposits that become increasingly difficult to remove as they accumulate over time.
Arizona Bead Blasting provides professional calcium removal services for suitable pool surfaces. We evaluate the finish and buildup before recommending a cleaning method.
