Queen Creek Pool Tile With Calcium and Pumice Damage
Ed had purchased his Queen Creek home just three weeks earlier, and his wife was already tired of looking at the white calcium line across their decorative blue ceramic mosaic pool tile. With approximately two years of mineral buildup, Ed called Arizona Bead Blasting to clean up the pool.
After cleaning the first few feet, we discovered why the calcium was unusually stubborn. The previous homeowner had apparently used a pumice stone repeatedly, scratching the tile's glazed surface. Those scratches left a rougher finish where calcium could cling more easily.
We lowered the pool water 2–3 inches and used our salt blasting method to remove the stubborn deposits. The existing scratches remained, but once the calcium was gone, the beautiful blue mosaic pattern stood out again.

How We Removed the Calcium
Inspect the Tile
We inspected the blue ceramic mosaic tile and found approximately two years of calcium buildup. Scratches from previous pumice cleaning had roughened the glaze, making the deposits more stubborn.
Remove the Scale
After lowering the pool water 2–3 inches, we used salt blasting to carefully remove the stubborn white and gray calcium deposits from the scratched ceramic mosaic tile.
Clean Up & Finish
With the calcium removed, the decorative blue mosaic looked beautiful again. The earlier pumice scratches remained because calcium removal cannot repair damaged tile glaze.
The Difference Is in the Tile
Approximately two years of calcium buildup removed from Ed's blue ceramic mosaic pool tile in Queen Creek. The old pumice scratches remained, but the tile looked beautiful once the calcium was gone.
The Result
After approximately two years of calcium buildup, Ed's decorative ceramic mosaic pool tile in Queen Creek looked beautiful again. The stubborn white and gray mineral deposits were removed using our salt blasting method, revealing the rich blue pattern that had been hidden beneath the scale. Although previous pumice cleaning had scratched the tile's glazed surface, those existing scratches did not prevent a dramatic improvement in its appearance. The calcium was gone, the original scratches remained, and Ed and his wife could enjoy the beautiful blue tile around their new backyard pool.
Pool Tile Calcium Removal in Queen Creek, AZ
Calcium buildup is a common problem for swimming pools throughout Queen Creek and the East Valley. Arizona's mineral-rich hard water leaves stubborn white deposits along the waterline, especially on ceramic, porcelain, and glass mosaic pool tile. Using pumice stones to scrub away calcium can scratch glazed tile, making future deposits more difficult to remove. Arizona Bead Blasting specializes in professional pool tile calcium removal using our salt blasting method to clean mineral deposits and improve the appearance of pool tile.
